Strategic Industries Workforce Grant Announced

Beginning Fall Semester 2013, students entering three specific program areas will have the opportunity to receive additional grant funding to pay for tuition and fees. Georgia introduced and approved the Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant (SIWDG) during the 2013 Legislative session. The grant provides funding for students in three career areas identified as high demand careers for Georgia. Those programs include Commercial Truck Driving, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Practical Nursing.
Students applying for the grant must be HOPE Grant approved and fully admitted to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College or another technical college in Georgia. The SIWDG provides a one time grant of $1000 to eligible Commercial Truck Driving students. It provides $500 for eligible students enrolled in Early Childhood Care and Education or Practical Nursing and taking nine or more credit hours. Students enrolled in these programs but taking eight credit hours or less will receive $250.
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College offers the Commercial Truck Driving Program on the Coffee and Valdosta Campuses. Practical Nursing is offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin, Coffee, and Valdosta Campus locations. Early Childhood Care and Education programs and classes are taught on the Ben Hill-Irwin, Coffee, Cook and Valdosta Campus locations as well as online. Fall Semester begins August 20, 2013 and new student applications are now begin accepted.
